Review: V10Plus Hyaluronic Acid Serum

V10Plus has been a brand on speculation for quite some time, I've been seeing countless positive reviews for V10plus' products, as a major fan of Japanese skincare, I was desperate to try their products and see if it's as amazing as the reviews I've read. Lucky enough I won a bottle of serum of my choice from their Instagram giveaway! With some advice from Tony from V10Plus in treating my extremely dehydrated skin, I received my spanking new Hyaluronic Acid Serum

About V10Plus

V10Plus, an extension of V10 birthed in Toyota, City of Japan by founder Akiko Yokota and her sister. 10 serums were developed to cater for different skin types and needs. All V10Plus products are researched, studied and tested to ensure it's quality. V10Plus is currently distributed across Europe, Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia... and now Australia YAY!

V10Plus has an AMAZING range of products, from serums to water based sunscreen.

Fun Facts about Hyaluronic Acid

  • Hyaluronic acid can hold 6 litres of water per 1 gram
  • Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring within our body, each person has approximately 15 grams of hyaluronic acid, production decrease with age. By the time we reach our mid 40s, production rate is decreased by 50% of what is required to maintain our  supple, firm and wrinkle free skin.
  • It is assumed that approximately 1/3 of the hyaluronic acid in our body degrades and is replaced on a daily basis.
  • Hyaluronic acid hydrates our skin, hair, eyes, tissues around our nerves and joints.
  • Hyaluronic acid can act as a shock absorber around joints and assist with new cell productions/waste filtration from cells.
  • Hyaluronic acid claims to have the ability to slowly down the process of ageing, those with large quantities of Hyaluronic acid in their body will likely to have younger looking skin for a longer period of time. However, once wrinkles surface, Hyaluronic acid will only be able to assist with smoother and soft skin, it is unlikely that wrinkles and deeper folds will subside regardless the frequency of use. The effectiveness of Hyaluronic acid to slow down the effects of aging in skincare or oral intake has been hypothesised but yet to be soundly proven.
  • Hyaluronic acid in skincare is able to penetrate our skin and act as a carrier to transport other key ingredients deep into our skin.

My Verdict

  • My skin is dehydrated and dry to the bone, however I have a dislike of putting face cream on straight after showering... I like every inch of my body to be dry before any greasy creams go on. Since I have started using V10Plus, it's the first thing I reach for straight out of shower. It's absorbing ability is incredible.. faster than Flash Gordon. The gel texture spreads well, a pea sized drop will cover your whole face, however once it's on your face it seeps into your skin. You will not experience any greasiness, the serum does not leave a trace on the surface of your skin.
  • It prevents my after shower skin from flaking and drying up. I apply it around and up to the orbital bones of my eye sockets. I did not experience any sensitivity from using this.
  • There's no scent to the serum, so it's perfect for those who are looking for a non-fragrant serum or have sensitive skin.
  • Application is simple via the dropper bottle, it's difficult to squeeze the wrong amount onto your hands.
  • My 10ml bottle is too small! I'm very close to finishing it up - which is really sad!! However, the smaller bottles are excellent samplers since there's such a wide variety of serums. 30ml is also available.
  • I loved this serum, however with my current budget, I'm afraid I cannot fund my addiction with 10ml at $69 and 30ml for $139.

Review: NYX Colour Mascaras + Swatches

Nyx cosmetics was a brand that I lusted for long before it was available in Australia. I remember procrastinating and refusing to complete my University assignments by spending hours filling my online cart with Nyx products right up till checkout, where I realised the site was based in the US and does not ship to Australia. I was guttered, that my dream of fulfilling my draws with Nyx Jumbo eye pencils has gone to dust. A few years on, Nyx has finally touched down in Australia, it is now the best selling cosmetic brand in Target!

Thankfully Nyx attended Bloggers United and we were all gifted 5 of the most gorgeous coloured mascaras. I've seen many deep coloured mascaras, this is the first time I've crossed path with cotton candy pastel mascaras. I love it.

Left to Right shades: Pink Perfect, Forget Me Not, Mint Julep, Coral Reef and Perfect Pear

About the NYX Cosmetics

For those who are on the ball with their Greek Mythology, Nyx is the Greek Goddess of night,  she dictates to both men and gods, she is older and more powerful than Zeus. Nyx is often portrayed as a beautiful and mysterious deity surrounded by darkness, the moon and stars. The Goddess of Night had inspired Toni Kho (Founder of Nyx Cosmetics) to name her makeup line after the mysterious and powerful Goddess with profound beauty, and thus in 1996 Nyx Cosmetics was born.

My Verdict
  • My initial thought when I saw these mascaras was... when will I wear them!? I took a risk and started wearing them to work. If you apply a couple of light coats, the colour is not in your face and in turn accentuates your eyes.
  • On the Monday after Bloggers United, I wore Forget me not and received compliments from my colleagues, they thought my lashes looked amazing! Haha, I felt like a fairy with purple lashes!
  • These mascaras are waterproof, initially I was quite upset about this mainly because I don't own a lot of makeup remover and would rather rinse mascaras off with lukewarm water or cream cleanser. But uh... after having to walk home in the rain, I appreciated the waterproof formula. You won't be crying any fairy tears as the product will not stray from your lashes. Given it's waterproof effect, I would also recommend application to lower lashes.
  • The colours will not fade, I came home from a long 10 hour day and my lashes were still as flattering as ever!
  • Some curling power observed when mascara is applied after I have curled my lashes. Since the colours are so cute and funky, it really doesn't matter whether your lashes are curled or not.
  • Since I've had my haircut, I feel a little bit more daring, I've been using these for everyday wear (especially on days where my work attire is pure black) and I don't feel out of place. If you are hesitant, apply a light coat on top of your black mascara (after it dries) OR apply a light coat to your lower lashes.
  • These are also fantastic for dress up parties, a night out, halloween, birthdays, hens.... and parties in general.
  • Mint Julep and Forget Me Not are my favourite!

Forget me not

Jamberry Nail Wraps

Happy Sunday homies! I can't believe how fast the weekend is going and we're back in the rat race again tomorrow. I love painting my nails on the weekend, but that means I can't do anything with my hands for a good 20 minutes. I was recently sent a lovely little Jamberry parcel to trial and test.

Jamberry is a DIY home nail wrap application first launched in 2010, it all started with 3 sisters who were searching for a cost effective way to keep their nails looking in style and polished.

I imagine Jamberry operates on a similar scale to Avon where products are distributed with consultant based sales -  a great idea for those who have a little bit of extra time on their hands a wouldn't mind a bit more cash :)

These wraps are pretty simple to use (although I always some how manage to stuff things up). I had enough wraps for 2 hands but managed to completely ruin up one hand. I didn't take off my old nail polish.. oops

Other than that I applied the wraps onto my fingers and used the nail buffer to buff off the excess. I must say, the designs are super cute, my nail art skills are non-existent, so this is great for those who wants a cute and effortless design, also great for accent nails.

As for wear time, they will last for up to 2 weeks. I had to remove this after a week for Bloggers United event - couldn't have one hand with nail wraps and the other with morbid black polish.  However, I previously tried nail wraps that claim to last for up to 2 weeks and ended up lasting all month, so I don't doubt the longevity of nail wraps in general.

If you like long lasting, cute little designs on your nails without the drying time, these Jamberry nail wraps may be perfect for you :)

My Jamberry set was kindly sent to me by Kim. I am not a Jamberry consultant and in no way affiliated, but if you feel that it's something that can be integrated into your life. Please get in touch with Kim @ kbenagejamic@gmail.com. To have a look at some other designs from Kim's online store, click here (there are some really cool Halloween/Christmas designs!).

SkinB5 - ACNE SUFFERERS MUST READ

This review is long over-due, however in order to test the effectiveness of an acne range, I decided to trial it for 2 months before a conclusion is determined. Before I go into the product review... let me tell you a little about my skin and acne, it's quite a personal experience.

Skin
My skin seems to be extremely dry and dehydrated at the same time. My nose gets a little bit oily after walking in the sun and being under air conditioning.

I've been battling minor to mild acne issues since I was a teenager. When I was 16, I thought my pimples would miraculously disappear when I hit my 20s. They didn't really go anywhere - it's depressing, but I just reminded myself that in a way pimples signify youth and I will be forever youthful.

Acne
My diet has been altered time and time again, I've been through detoxes, increased my water fruit and vegetable intake, being on antibiotics (which broke me out even more) and being on the pill for about 2 years

While "the pill" controlled my acne, I started to pile on weight, had no motivation to do anything and suffered horrendous mood swings (horrendous as in many plates were smashed). The pill seemed to demonstrate little side effects on others, but it was just a nightmare for me. With the added controversy of "the pill" increasing the risk of blood clots, and I know for a fact that "the pill" causes your uterus to age significantly (however it will recover after you've been off for a period of time).

I came off the pill after 2 years, my skin was fine with occasional minor break outs.

I'm not too sure what hormornal changes is happening in my body, but I had an awful break out approximately 2 months ago with pimples popping up like daisies. This is embarasing but I experienced some awful break-outs on my back. I had no idea how to get rid of it.

SkinB5

I was sent some SkinB5 products a while back, initially I planned on reviewing their Cleansing Mousse only. However, I quickly changed my mind after the break out. I usually do not take any tablets unless it's prescribed or general paracetamol. I was extremely hesitant on taking tablets from SkinB5 with a million questions running through my head "what is in the tablets?" "How will it affect my body?" "What are the side effects?" "Is it safe?".

After reading a few positive reviews from BeautyHeaven, I my fears subsided and I decided to give the tablets a go.

Product Benefits (From SkinB5's website)

  • Potent formula to help control more serious acne
  • Helps control skin oil production - suitable for acne sufferers with very oily skin
  • Supports skin healing and renewal
  • Supports healthy immune function
  • Provides powerful anti-blemish antioxidants
  • Helps relieve stress
  • Combine the revolutionary VitaminB5 with other selected powerful natural ingredients
  • VitaminB5 is proven to be effective at treating the production of Sebum, the main cause of acne breakouts.
  • Actually works! Already successfully treated thousands of acne sufferers across the globe.
  • Suitable for all ages and all levels of acne, including blackheads.
  • A breakthrough cure to treat acne and skin problems at the source.

  • Not to mention, the whole range is Australian Made!

    What's in the tablets ?

    - Pathothenic Acid
    - Copper
    - Silicon
    - Vitamin A
    - Nicotinamide (Vit B3)
    - Folic Acid
    - Biotin
    - Vitex agnus castus extra equiv to dry fruit (in caplet only)

    The System

    Intake
For the first 3 or so weeks: 2 tablets, 3 times per day with food and water

Once my break out calmed down, I switched to Acne Control Caplets for maintenance, 1 caplet, 3 times per day with food and water

    My Verdict
    • It worked. My acne was reduced significantly within the first week, it also prevented new and upcoming pimples. I did not experience any side effects as I did with "the pill" and antibiotics, no weight gain, no mood swings, no initial break outs. You will see the tablets take effect within days. It's been 2 months now and my face is now pimple free - however as previously mentioned my face wasn't my main concern, I only had a few pimples, my BACK was my concern. The pimples grew like colonies of termite. I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the results (see pictures below). The pus-filled pimples diminished completely, all that's left is a bit of scarring.
    • The tablets are big I generally don't have any difficulty swallowing larger tablets, but for those who have general dislike who it comes to tablet swallowing, you can crush and mix the content with your smoothie. The caplets are a lot smaller.
    • No taste. Cold and flu tablets usually leave a bitter taste in my mouth, these won't.
    • It is extremely important that you do not miss your tablets within the first 8-10 days. Otherwise the effect may be delayed.
    • The foam cleanser worked well with my Shiseido cleansing brush. It doesn't quite rid all make up, as a result I got into the habit (a good habit) of double cleansing. I'd use a gel or cream cleanser to rid my makeup and use SkinB5's foam cleanser to go over my whole face, leaving my face squeaky clean. I have large pores and I feel that there will not be a product in the world that will be able to rid them. In the 2 months that I have been using this cleanser did not notice any significant pore reductions yet - I personally believe it will take a long time and continuous use for something like that to happen. If I do notice any changes in the future, I will add an edit.
    • The Acne Control Moisturiser is my favourite skincare product out of the kit. It's not a heavy moisturiser but boy it hydrates!! I personally feel this moisturiser is suitable for all skin types as it is not oily or greasy and it's easily absorbed. I often experience a serious case of moisturisers rolling into little balls after application (Does this happen to anyone else?)... espeically with Nivea moisturisers and some Bioderma. Since this moisturiser doesn't contain any SPF - I've been using it on weekends and days when I'm working from home. This cream can be used as a day or night cream.
    • The Purifying Mask worked nicely on my skin as well, I loved the texture, my skin did not feel dry nor did I experience any sensitivity. I actually prefer this more than my Alpha H clay mask.

    Before and After
NOTE: I am still taking the caplets - like previously mentioned, I recently had colonies of pimples pop up on my back (sorry about the gross pictures), it's not everyday I show the world my bacne. Also consider the fact that I did get quite a bit of a tan from Port Douglas.

Top pic before any Skinb5 tablet intake. Bottom pic is after 2 months of SkinB5 use/intake, there's only 1 more bumpy pimple left, the rest are scars (Yes, I did try to pick at then) that seems to be healing quite quickly.

Overall.. really really really happy with SkinB5, the results knocked my socks off. I would highly recommend their range to any acne sufferers out there who doesn't want to be on the pill and find antibiotics useless. The before and after pic says it all!

Those pictures took a little bit of courage to put up, I didn't speak to any of my closest friends about the recent outbreak of acne on my back, and now I'm publishing it online, haha oh man!

Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection + Swatches

Nude lipsticks are one of the most elegant, chic and sophisticated shades in my books, my lips are quite pigmented so I never know which shade will suit me, hence, never purchased any nudes!!
Luckily, I now have an opportunity to test out 5 amazing shades from Rimmel London's Nude Collection by Kate Moss.

Kate Moss can pull off nude lips like no body's business, these chic shades were designed by Kate Moss herself, there's a nude shade for every skintone - delicate pinks, subtle apricots, cashmere beiges and rich toffee tones.

There are 5 shades to this collection..

#40 the lightest shade of the collection with a subtle pink undertone
#42 a gorgeous pale pink nude
#43 is described as a tan nude hue shade, a slight apricot colour
    #45 subtle dusty rose pink
#48 a burnt toffee shade, in my opinion, one of the most gorgeous shade to give your lips some dimension and... pazzaz
Cost: $12.95 per lipstick from Priceline and $12.5 for Rimmel transparent lipliner

     My Verdict
    • The shades are absolutely gorgeous, I can wear all the colours with the exception of #40, it was incredibly pale in contrast to my olive complexion and made me look really washed out and ill. My lips are also naturally pigmented, so I had a little bit of trouble covering up my natural lip colour. It would look amazing on someone with a pink undertone and a pale complexion.
    • #42 is nice but a little bit pale for my liking, nonetheless it is still a very wearable shade. #43 is a clear favourite - the slight apricot shade complements olive skin really well. I personally feel #45 as a dusty pink shade, is a universal shade that would be suitable for all. #48 is another favourite... I can't go past a good burgandy shade.
    • These lipsticks are scented with a subtle sweet floral smell.
    • The texture is soft, smooth and deceivingly moisturising. Without lip balm, this lipstick seeped into the crack of my lips and really dried out my already dried lips. I would highly recommend generous coats of a good lip balm before application.
    • I did find these lipsticks to be long lasting, the colours remained for approximately 6-7 hours. After "careful"eating, a slight stain will remain on your lips.
    • Last but not least, the Moisture Renew Universal Transparent Lip Liner (pic below).. this is a really clever product, it would be my go-to lip liner if I was in a hurry and cannot find the correct liner for my lip colour, OR if I'm traveling and decided to take a few different shades of lippies. However, I found that my lip tracing abilities with this liner is extremely poor, partly due to my lack of hand eye coordination and partly due it's transparent nature - BUT it doesn't matter, it's transparent.. you can dry it all over your face. Generally I like to apply lipliner AFTER my lipstick and use the liner to fix up my lips to give it a cleaner look with smoother edges (especially for darker shades) I probably won't be able to use this for my stated purpose on darker shades. Having said that, I could use this to fix up the light nude colours.

    Swatches

I only put #40 and #48 lip swatches up, some how the other 3 shades looks pretty much the same in my photos. Refer to the arm swatch or the video below to see all products in action!

Importance of Night Cream ft. Boots Laboratories

Alongside eye creams, cleansers and SPF, night creams are considered to be one of the most important skincare element. While working at Shiseido many moons ago, our trainer advised that beauty sleep is between 11-3pm, that's when our cells regenerate the most. I wasn't sure whether it's scientifically proven, but I believed it. When it comes to skincare, I don't play around, sunscreen, eye cream and night creams are a MUST. I've been using night cream every night since I was 20 and I have noticed significant improvements in my skin's overall appearance when compared to my cousins of the same ago or younger family members who do not use night creams!

I personally feel night creams are significantly important and acts as a preventative method for me. Like they always say, prevention not cure! Once those wrinkles start to form, it'll be a pain to rid.

According to Australian Natural Health Magazine skin cell regeneration doubles at night and 11pm-4am is the prime time where cell regeneration peaks. Whether it's been 11pm-3pm or 11pm - 4am.. ideally, we should all be sound asleep during those hours.

    • Day creams are used to protect our skin which is why most day creams are lighter in texture with SPF. While night creams are used to assist with resoration and regeneration. Hence, night creams are often thicker.
    • As we age, the collagen and elastin in our skin undergoes significant changes, our skin begins to lose elasticity. These structural changes allows the birth of wrinkles.
    • Skin changes and increase in wrinkles can be caused by general aging, sun damage and overall health/diet.
    • During cell regeneration, night creams are believed to support your skin through the process, a good night cream may stimulate collagen production and provide deep moisture.
    • Most night creams are jam packed with antioxidants to help prevent the development of wrinkles
    • In order for night creams to take effect and maintain it's effect, ensure to incorporate the method into your nightly routine.
    • Nightly and prolonged use can lead to improvements in texture, fine lines, delay in new lines and an increased collagen production.

For the past 3.5 weeks I've been using Boots Laboratories Serum 7 Regenerating Night Cream for Dry Skin every single night. My skin is quite dry, so I usually layer on serum, night cream and oil in order to achieve the desired level of hydration. This night cream is rich, creamy and highly moisturising with subtle floral scents that doesn't linger. I absolutely love the texture of this night cream, it's rich but it's not oily or greasy and easily absorbed. However, my skin will remain moist and supply throughout the night.

It is difficult to determine the level of effectiveness after 3.5 weeks of use. However, I've used night creams that were not suitable for me and after just 1 week of use, my skin would feel coarse and dehydrated as I begin to develop fine lines. This baby kept my lines at bay, I'd wake up with my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. Highly recommended for anyone with dry skin!

Boots Laboratories has a range of anti-aging night creams specifically formulated for targeted age groups. Different age requires different skin, I remember using my mum's night cream and eye cream when I was 16, under eye milia occured and my skin broke out, since then I stuck to using skincare products assigned for my age bracket.

Short Hair: New Hair, New Makeup

For the past month I've been struggling to clean my hair, it gets tangled, I keep getting hair falling out and it was just becoming increasingly difficult to manage - the weather was also heating up.. it it was the perfec time to get my locks chopped.

I checked out a few hair-dressers who charged $55 for a tiny trim... oh hell no! That could've been put towards the Jo Malone fragrance on my wishlist.

As always, I think I can do anything and everything, 2 sundays ago, I decided to save $55 and give myself a trim.

I am notorious for cutting my own hair. Don't ask me how I do it, I usually just grab a pair of scissors and hope for the best.

The first pair of scissors I used had a broken handle (probably not ideal for hair cutting) but I decided to use it anyway... and the result was atrocious.... luckily I snapped happy pics to my boyfriend detailing the process (see pic below, sorry, I take the ugliest selfies to my bf... those pictures are so terrifying I'll make them smaller)

    Oops... trimmed TOO much
The initial trim didn't go as planned, I cut WAY too much hair off... so I thought I may as well just cut everything off....

I had no idea what I was gonna do with my awful uneven fringe, it suited medium hair Lily but not short hair Lily.. After a quick consult with a friend, ixie fringe was recommended...and pixie fringe I cut!

Above was the damage. It took me a VERY long time to get used to it, it's the shortest my hair has even been since I was 4. I even had nighmares about the hair.
2 weeks on.. I learned to love it. It's practical for Summer - easy to clean, does not require a lot of management AND I barely need to brush it.
My previous makeup routine didn't suit my new hair, so I decided to put togther a new everyday routine, it did not deviate significantly from my previous makeup, but it did make a difference.

The makeup that made the above pic possible..

    - Sunsense Invisible Tint Finish SPF50+
    - Model Co BB Cream Medium
    - Shiseido Curler
    - Bobbi Brown Bronzer
    - Rimmel Brow this way
    - Eye of Horus Black eyeliner
    - Thin Lizzy Mascara
    - Revlon ColourStay 10 Berry Bloom
    - Shiseido lipstick RS306

Elucent National Costume Launch with Miss Universe Australia 2015

Last week, my partner Sam and I attended Elucent National Costume Launch at L'Aqua thanks to Elucent Skincare. Last year we were there to witness the gorgeous Tegan Martin strut the catwalk with the winning costume. This year, I had my money on Timothy Cubbo's Dame Edna inspired costume, it was a winner in my heart before the results were announced, all my Facebook spamming was put to good use. I was also excited to see Miss Univerise Australia 2015 Monika Radulovic - I was told by a close friend that we were in the same elective class back when I did my B. Psych at UWS. I mentioned this to Monika as we stood there attempting to figure out which class it was - I realised when I came home that it was the awful counseling unit... I'm sure she wouldn't have forgotten about that class.

This event was held on Labour Day public holiday and really topped off our long weekend. We also had ice cream afterwards.. but that's another story.

    Enough rambling, time for pictures!

Generous as always, we each received a goodie bag containing products from the sponsors Elucent Skincare and Face of Australia. I am already a massive fan of Elucent Skincare and use it everyday, so I can never have enough! Goodie bag content includes:

    - Elucent Whitening Handcream
    - Elcuent whitening eye cream
    - Elucent whitening trio travel pack
    - Face of Australia Nail polish
    - Face of Australia Lip Paint

Sam decided he will be using all the skincare in the goodie bag and gave me the his lip paint (hence 2 in the picture), he did however kept his nail polish.. I'm not too sure what he intends to do with that...
